Slipstream
Wynscreen Sydney WorldPride 2023
Slipstream was a collaborative temporary public artwork by Alexandra Jonscher and Andrew Christie commissioned by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) that had two iterations.
The first was for the ReVITALise Rainbow Tunnels Creative Program commissioned to celebrate Sydney WorldPride 2023 and align with the TfNSW Safer Cities Program initiatives to trial public art as a tool to make safer places for women, girls and gender-diverse people. Slipstream was presented as an augmented reality-activated hoarding and light installation in Ashfield Station's pedestrian tunnel. The artwork depicts a whimsical, sugary, fluid landscape populated by avatars developed by Andrew Christie and Alexandra Jonscher. The avatars were inspired by the artist's shared experiences of bisexuality, and aimed to celebrate the multi-faceted nature of queer experiences in an interactive environment.
Transport for NSW then commissioned Slipstream into a moving image work to be shown on Wynscreen for Sydney WorldPride 2023 from February 17th - March 5th 2023. The artwork was animated into a looped video artwork based on the AR animations made for the Ashfield tunnel installation.
